ABSTRACT

This essay explores how green Romanticism extends from traditional British Romantic literature to Taiwanese ecological literature, with a particular focus on eagle conservation and sustainable agriculture. By integrating Romantic literature, documentary filmmaking, ecological farming, and AI technology, the essay aims to bridge the humanities and technological practice, fostering both humanistic concern and scientific application. Firstly, the Taiwanese environmental documentary Fly, Kite Fly is examined, with a focus on “Mr Eagle” Shen Zhen-Zhong’s passion for eagles and his conservation efforts, reflecting the Romanticists’ deep appreciation for nature. This love for nature, akin to the Romantic poet William Wordsworth’s praise for pastoral landscapes, underscores the profound connection between humans and nature. Additionally, Shen’s conservation project extends beyond eagles to include concern for agricultural lands, aligning with the concerns of Romantics (e.g., Wordsworth) about industrialisation and environmental degradation. Furthermore, the essay touches upon green Romanticism research, emphasising the close relationship between humans and nature and the values of respecting nature. In Taiwan, this philosophy receives support from conservationists and farmers, leading to ecological protection and agricultural transformation through collaborative efforts between government, industry, and academia. This interdisciplinary research approach encourages the collaboration of humanities and scientific disciplines to jointly explore ecological issues. Finally, the essay mentions the application of AI technology in organic agriculture, highlighting technology’s support for ecological conservation. Through AI technology in agriculture, agricultural production can be managed more effectively, achieving sustainable land development and echoing the core concerns of ecological literature. In conclusion, this essay demonstrates the significance of green Romanticism in modern ecology and environmental conservation and emphasises the value of interdisciplinary research.
